Judi Dench. For decades she has brought depth, wit and brilliance to the countless roles she has held on the theater stage and in theaters worldwide since 1957. From 1995’s GoldenEye to 2012’s SkyFall, Dame Judith Olivia Dench has been undeniable as the unforgivingly luminous and relentlessly charming, M. She stepped into the role of M as the first female to do so in the history of the James Bond franchise. The most memorable line for me from GoldenEye was “If you think for one moment I don’t have the balls to send a man out to die, your instincts are dead wrong.” How ironic it was that in her final role as M in SkyFall, she herself went out to die. The end of Judi’s M is the end of an era. It will be interesting to see the new M, played by Ralph Fiennes, in the soon to be named 24th James Bond film.
